Hives for Lives is the brainchild of two suburban Philadelphia teen entrepreneurs Molly and Carly Houlahan, who share-CEO responsibilities. Launched six years ago, the company was inspired by their grandfather who died of throat cancer.

I went on a walk today along the ocean cliffs of a beautiful state park with nothing more than a water bottle and my keys. This radio show on KZSC was a little different than usual by featuring two guests, Poppy Champlin who’s bringing the Queer Queens of Qomedy to Santa Cruz, and Topher Maraffi talking about the experimental theater production, “Stop the Press”.

The show began with Poppy Champlin speaking about her show “Queer Queens of Qomedy” at the Rio Theater happening March 6, 2010. She is bringing this “make you laugh so hard you’ll crack a rib or at least be crying” show for everyone not just gays and lesbians.

On February 24, 2010, we had a Salon “Idea-Go-Round” at NextSpace for the Design Renaissance Event form 7:30-9pm.

The event was co-hosted by Awake Media, the Santa Cruz Design and Innovation Center represented by Chris Yonge of Studio Cruz , and Michael Sammet.

The event was a great success with great fruit salad and chocolate covered bananas donated by the Blessings .

When the participants came up the stairs at NextSpace they were greeted by instructions to take a post-it and write a sustainable idea for Santa Cruz. Then, they were asked to put their ideas on the Idea-Go-Round wheel ...

I'd wager that the high price of not capturing and sharing every moment of our lives will soon dwarf the cost to our privacy.

Privacy is dead, and social media hold the smoking gun.

Those who insert themselves into as many channels as possible look set to capture the most value. They'll be the richest, the most successful, the most connected, capable and influential among us.

Saturday October 10 was the inaugural Girls in Tech Managing Directors Retreat. The retreat was held at the University Center on the campus of UCSC. Seana Norvell planned and executed the retreat with the grace and efficiency of a seasoned event coordinator. From the casual mixer at Cafe Mare the evening before to the little bags of saltwater taffys and mini steno pads for note taking at our seats, Seana manged to make each participant feel welcome and included.

I read that 16% of our school age children are homeless according to a survey from 2007.

Today, it’s story time! As in “horror” story, sort of!

Tough negotiators, as in hard-nosed, ballsy and, oh yes, dumb!
